Raymond is a Class A PGA Golf Professional. Starting in 1993, Raymond had the privilege of developing a relationship with Hank Haney as a student. In the late 1995, he took part in Hank Haney’s “Teach the Teacher” clinic and eventually became a Hank Haney Director of Instruction, attending and contributing to the “Teach the Teacher” program.
In 2004, Raymond became the first assistant at Houston Country Club, working under Gordon Johnson. He helped set up a teaching and training program to improve the teaching and technical knowledge of the staff at Houston Country Club. Gordon Johnson became a mentor and provided insight into the Harman Golf Family. Raymond was grateful for the opportunity to learn from Gordon about the traditions and thought process of Mr. Claude Harmon and his sons Craig, Dick, Butch, and Billy. While at Houston Country Club, Raymond attended the first Titleist TPI forum in Orlando, Florida. Raymond’s teaching of top-level players made him realize the importance of fitness and understanding how the body works in 3D schematics. Titleist TPI provided such training and understanding. Raymond also began a mentoring relationship with Jim Hardy, the author of “The Plane Truth.”
Raymond has attended additional Titleist TPI forums and has been a tremendously successful Head Golf Professional at Tangle Ridge Golf Club, Camel Valley Ranch, Country Club at Loch Lloyd, and Clovernook Country Club.
Raymond joined The Olympic Club staff in 2008. He was the lead instructor at the Olympic Club and was part of the 2012 US Open. In 2012, he introduced the Trackman technology to the Olympic Club membership and staff. Trackman is the single best teaching and training tool in golf. Trackman identifies what the golf ball and golf club are doing during the swing and provides data points to help the student understand where they need to improve their golf.
Since 2014, Raymond has owned his own Trackman and has provided members and guests with state-of-the-art instruction and club fitting. He continues to do so at Governors Towne Club. If you are teaching, you are fitting, and if you are fitting, you are teaching.
Raymond’s teaching philosophy focuses on correcting ball flight with a significant emphasis on impact. Raymond also believes in looking at the whole swing, including athletic abilities or limitations, mental coaching, and nutrition. Impact is the most important part of the golf swing. All teachers should be able to make an immediate impact on a student’s ball flight.
